Missing Camp Lejeune Marine found dead in Petersburg, Va

Private First Class Smith was an infantry Marine assigned to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He enlisted in the Marines in July of 2012 and had previously deployed to Afghanistan from September to December of 2013.

The death of this Marine follows the discovery of the body of former Marine James Kalitz, 31, this week in Pender County, North Carolina. While the death of Kalitz was under investigation, authorities had no reason to believe his death was the result of foul play.

In the last two weeks, three Soldiers have been found dead on post at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. All three deaths remain under investigation:

Sgt. Adam Gilliam, 28, of Morristown, Tennessee, was a cavalry scout in B Troop, 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team. Pvt. 1st Class Lance Cuffee was a geospatial intelligence imagery analyst in Intelligence and Sustainment Company, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion. Pvt. 1st Class Darrell Robinson was with the 550th Military Working Dog, 42nd Military Police Detachment, 503rd Military Police Battalion, 16th Military Police Brigade.
